Giving our writers a wider scope, they tackle everything from the latest Blockbusters to Mumblecore. Eclectic, expressive and intelligent opinions beautifully designed and presented.
Vérité is a quartely digital film publication, and website, showcasing critical writing and opinion on independent and foreign-language cinema.
We launched the digital magazine in March 2013, and have since devoted cover features to exciting and provocative contemporary works including Spring Breakers, Stranger by the Lake, Only God Forgives and The Great Beauty. We’ve profiled the work of Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, Harmony Korine and Shane Caruth and interviewed the likes of Nicolas Winding Refn, David Gordon Green, Cate Shortland, Joachim Trier and Jeff Nichols. Through our discovery strand we’ve introduced readers to the work of global filmmakers who don’t often get the recognition they deserve – such as Indonesia’s Joko Anwar and South Africa’s Oliver Hermanus.
The magazine carries regular retrospective content, with features on masters of cinema (Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini, Sam Fuller and John Cassavetes), spotlight profiles on fresh talent (Xavier Dolan,) and reviews of the latest releases. We talk about the films and filmmakers that excite and inspire us – offering strong opinions and opposing viewpoints to get readers thinking, debating and discussing cinema. Our In Defence strand lets our writers provide the case for films that have been forgotten, dismissed or misunderstood.
Vérité carries original writing from fresh and dynamic voices combined with stylish design and layout. We have an international focus – with writers based in Hong Kong, the United States, Europe and the UK – we have a global reach and our audience is growing. Our extensive monthly festival coverage has seen us cover big hitters like Cannes and Berlinale, established worldwide platforms like SXSW, Locarno and Sundance, and smaller, but significant festivals such as the Boston Underground Film Festival.
If you are interested in contributing for Vérité, we are always looking for exciting new writers, for both the magazine and the website. We are also currently seeking partnerships and new opportunities for collaboration from media partners, and have highly competitive rates for advertising throughout the magazine.
